When Sherwin Williams announced Evergreen Fog as the 2022 Color Of The Year, they absolutely hit the nail on the head! Green paint colors for cabinets have been trending for the past several years, and Evergreen Fog for kitchen cabinets couldn’t be a better choice!
When my client chose Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog for her kitchen cabinets, I was thrilled! We paint a lot of cabinetry in white, so anytime a client chooses a paint color other than white for cabinets, we get unreasonably excited:)
Let’s take a look at how SW Evergreen Fog transformed a lackluster kitchen into a brand new looking space!
Before: Bland, Boring and Builder Grade
Here you can see how average and boring the builder-grade, honey Oak cabinets are. There’s nothing wrong with them structurally, but they do lack originality. My client was looking for a boho-inspired, fresh and youthful kitchen to reflect her personality and style.
After: Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog Kitchen Cabinets
Yes! These are the same honey oak cabinets after paint! It never ceases to amaze me how fabulous Oak cabinets look after painting them. (Sources listed at bottom of post)
Clearly there were other upgrades to the kitchen that contributed to the overall look. The countertops were replaced with Stradivarius Quartz. And a carpenter made some modifications to the sink area to make room for a new apron front sink.
Above, you can see what the Oak grain looks like after painting. We did NOT fill grain on these cabinets. But if you’re looking for more info on how to do that, you can click on this step by step tutorial on how to fill wood grain.
What an incredible update, right?

An interior designer looked at our cabinets and told me the cathedral style won’t look good with a colour but every time I see an image like this I get pretty excited. Is there a chance she was wrong? Have you painted cathedral style cabinets in a colour before?
Kayla says
Hi Hayley, we’ve painted many kitchens with cathedral style doors, yes. In both colors and white. I mean….it’s all a personal preference, but I would agree with your designer and say that I think a squared off cabinet door is more desirable than a cathedral shaped door. However, it’s all in what you think is best. We’ve painted several kitchens before where the homeowner paid a carpenter to make new shaker style doors and got rid of the arched door. If your budget allows for new doors to be made, that is an excellent option! I’m not sure I was much help to you here!
Deb says
The cathedral style doors look wonderful painted. Shaker style is overdone. The more detailed the cabinet, the more high end. Ultimately it’s up to you and what your taste are.

Love the change! And particularly that color!

Love seeing your makeover’s, beautiful colour, finish looks amazing, so wish I had kept my old wooden units, now I have high gloss white that show every mark.

Hello,
This looks fabulous. I’m painting my cabinets this color. However, i wanted to ask, did you use Satin or Semi-Gloss?
Jennifer G says
What color is on the walls? I want both!
Jenn says
Can you tell me what color you used on the walls? Love this post, can’t wait to use it to do the same in my kitchen!!
Justin says
Did you spray the cabinets?
Also what color did you paint the walls? It looks AMAZING!
Debbie Hooks says
Will you do custom work? My daughter-in-law has my mother’s old buffet and she wants it painted glossy. Can we bring it to you to paint for us?
Lisa says
Looks great! What brand grout did you get?
Taylor says
I love the way the cabinets turned out! I’ve been looking at doing my cabinets the same color, but my question is what color did you go with your wall color?
Kayla says
It’s either SW Neutral Ground or Natural Choice…I can’t remember which!
Lisa says
Do you know what color the walls are in this kitchen? I’m painting my cabinets Evergreen Fog, and would love some Sherwin Williams suggestions on color to paint my walls. I do like the idea of a white backsplash just like the picture here. Thank you!!

What color was used for the walls?
Janis Adkins England says
Luv it! What color did you paint the walls? I didn’t find any mention of “that”. The wall color compliments the evergreen fog color, beautifully!
Sue says
What wall color did you use?
Kayla says
I painted these cabinets for a client so it’s not my own home. But I think I remember the homeowner saying that her walls were either painted Sherwin Williams Neutral Ground or Natural Choice. I’m confident it was one of those two colors. Sorry I can’t be of more help! xo

What finish did you get your cabinet paint? This is just beautiful!
Cynthia A Gilbert says
I just love this kitchen and the cabinets. Do you know what color the wall is painted. We’re remodeling our house soon and I am having a hard time finding a paint color I like.
Marilyn says
Kayla would use of black appliances (using a wall oven, built in microwave and a cooktop) also be a good look in this kitchen? Or would that be too much black? I just can’t “see” how it would look in my mind. Otherwise I love the look of this kitchen.
