If you’ve been searching for that perfect greige for your kitchen cabinets, look no further than Edgecomb Gray from Benjamin Moore! Not too dark or too bright, this timeless warm gray will look amazing in any kitchen!
Today, we’re reviewing one of my favorite greige colors: Benjamin Moore’s Edgecomb Gray. I’ll go over ideas for pairing this color, its undertones and give some examples of Edgecomb Gray in different kitchens so you can see how it looks for yourself.
I have to admit; this color is one of my absolute favorite colors for kitchen cabinets. It’s light but not too light. Dark but not too dark. Basically, it’s a perfectly light-medium shade (LRV of 63.88), and that makes it a super versatile color.
For example, if you use it in a very bright room with lots of natural light, it will look much lighter, almost washed out. By contrast, use it in a room with very little natural light, and it will look darker and warmer.
Thanks to its versatility and neutral shade, Edgecomb Gray will look great in the kitchen and almost any room!
Edgecomb Gray’s Undertones
Most greiges seem to fall a little closer to either gray or beige. However, Edgecomb Gray somehow manages to find that perfect balance of both. It’s warm, light, tawny, and creamy.
Although it’s a neutral color, even most neutral grays and beiges will be either warm or cool and have at least a hint of undertones. Edgecomb Gray from Benjamin Moore is no exception!
This greige is warm and creamy, but without any yellow undertones. I find that cool colors convey a slightly harsher vibe, while warm colors exude a very comfortable, “lived-in” ambiance.
If you look closely, you will be able to see some slight pink and green undertones. Both are very slight and are really only noticeable in certain lights or near other red and green colors. For example, if you put Edgecomb Gray near something green, you’ll see its green undertone.
But, it’s worth noting that you won’t walk into a room and think, “Did I just paint these cabinets green?”. This color is neutral, and its undertones are very slight, but they ARE there.
How To Determine If A Paint Color’s Undertones Will Shine Through In Your Home
Wondering how to see a paint color’s undertones in your own home before committing to a color? Simply put the paint color next to another paint color. You’ll immediately be able to see the differences between them.
Keep in mind that those tiny samples you get from the paint store won’t cut it. And, if you’re like me, you don’t really want to paint swatches of different color paints all over your wall.
That’s why the best way is to get a paint sample and a piece of poster board. Paint the sample onto the poster board and, after it dries, hold it up against the walls or cabinets in your home.
Want to make getting a sample even easier? I’ve got a secret shortcut for you. I highly recommend Samplize! These are giant sheets of paint samples that you can simply stick up on your wall. No painting poster required!
Paint looks different at different times of the day thanks to changes in natural lighting. Leave your sample board in place for a couple of days, if you can, so that you can see how the paint looks in different lighting situations throughout the day.
Shades That Pair Well With Edgecomb Gray From Benjamin Moore
Let’s chat for a moment about great coordinating colors that look incredible with this beautiful creamy greige.
Thanks to the fact that this shade isn’t especially dark or super light, it pairs well with shades at both ends of the spectrum!
Moreover, my favorite thing about this color is that it makes the perfect backdrop for many different color palettes.
Elegant Background Color
As a beautiful neutral anchor color, you can use Edgecomb Gray as a warm, unobtrusive color for your kitchen cabinets or other painted pieces throughout the home. In addition, if you enjoy having colorful decor pieces and accents, you can let this paint be your backdrop so that your decor can stand out.
Neutral Palette
It can be part of a very neutral color scheme with different creams, whites, tans, and even browns. Edgecomb Gray works well with wood in nearly any color. This is a greige you want if you’re looking for dark floors and white trim!
It also works great with many white and cream-colored countertops.
Brighter Color Scheme
Edgecomb Gray works well with blues, greens, and even some yellows if you’re going for a brighter color palette!
For some specific color ideas, check out these great coordinating colors:
- White Dove – a soft gray-white that looks just bright enough against Edgecomb Gray to stand out without being too bright.
- White Chocolate – this beautiful creamy warm white pairs well for rooms with less natural light.
- Nickel – I love pairing a smokey blue with a neutral greige. I’m a sucker for blues anyway, and these two colors look incredible together. One way to use a color like Nickel is with accent pieces if you don’t want to commit to painting blue walls.
- Palladian Blue – this serene blue-green pairs well to create a calm atmosphere.
- Hale Navy – rich and striking, this deep blue looks incredible when used as a pop of color.
- Saybrook Sage – this medium yellow-green sage looks stunning when paired with this greige.
- Hawthorne Yellow – when you want a more stimulating ambiance, turn to yellow! Hawthorne Yellow is a beautiful medium shade, and it pairs nicely with the warm undertones in Edgecomb Gray.
- Chelsea Gray – darker than Edgecomb Gray, pairing the two together helps make each of them stand out.
- Kendall Charcoal – a dark gray that’s just as versatile as Edgecomb Gray. These two look incredible and elegant when paired together to create a timeless color scheme.
