Hi friends, I’m back again with another glossy piece of furniture! Like most of my pieces, this vintage American of Martinsville campaign dresser was found via Craigslist in a nearby town.
Seriously, someday I will remember to get a true before photo! As you can see, I took off the hardware and began sanding then remembered a photo. This dresser was in good shape. I just needed to fill a few minor dings and scratches. My favorite product for this is Bondo Glazing Putty.
Once everything was filled, I block sanded the dresser by hand. To block sand, I wrap a piece of 3M 220 grit sandpaper around a sanding block like this. This flexible paper is my favorite!
Lucky for me, those two gold lines on the drawers were only painted on and not engraved! I wouldn’t have wanted a campaign dresser with lines carved into the drawers! After I sanded the dresser, I primed it with my favorite oil base primer, ProBlock, from Sherwin Williams. When the primer was dry, I sanded the whole dresser again with 320 grit sandpaper to ensure it was as smooth as possible. Since this piece is so large and will be for sale, I decided to play it safe and go with a shade of white. White sells furniture quickest! I chose Sherwin Williams Shoji White in Industrial Enamel. It’s such a pretty, creamy shade of off white!

Looks great, Kayla! I saw this first on Pinterest and couldn’t remember what original piece that was. The makeover is fabulous, as always. 🙂

Hi Kayla! {that’s my daughters name BTW ????} I follow you Instagram, but this is my first time checking our your blog and wow this is an amazing makeover! I’ve been on the hunt for a campaign dresser forever, and when I find one I hope to make it just as pretty as this one. I just made over a campaign nightstand and I wish I had not chosen to spray paint it but hey you live and you learn!
