Ah faux bamboo furniture, I just love you so much. I don’t know what it is about it, but I can’t get enough! If you’re not familiar with the furniture-speak, lemme introduce you.
This is a dresser from the Bali Hai collection by Henry Link.
Nothing that special, right? Bedrooms all over the country had this set in the 1970’s.
Truth be told, I think it’s really ugly in the original state.
But something magical happens when these are painted in high gloss!
Yeah, that’s the same dresser!
I sprayed it in Fine Paints of Europe Hollandlac Brilliant tinted to a color by Sherwin Williams called Moscow Midnight.
I’ve spent several years (and a lotta money lol) to perfect that reflection. I’m still not perfect at it…but it’s looking pretty darn good
Wanna know all of the products, materials, tools, paints and primers I use to create these gorgeous, glossy pieces of furniture?
You can download a free copy of my Glossy Furniture Guide right here!
You’re definitely gonna want to download that list, it’s so good!
Until next time,
Kayla

Hi Kayla I absolutely ❤️ your work! I was introduced to your work thru’ Thea. I refinish furniture too & am based in Auckland, NZ.
I would also love to try my hand at these glossy finishes however I do not get the Hollandlac here. So I have decided to try with another marine grade glossy finish. Also I do not have a facility whereby I can spray paint so I will be actually brushing on. I wanted your advise about it — will brushing on not give the same mirrored finish ? I am quite scared to try — refinished furniture is quite slow to sell in NZ hence I want to try a different finish.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
thankyou
