Have a piece of furniture in need of an update? Undoubtedly, you’ve already thought of painting it, but have you considered also adding a fun splash of pattern with peel and stick wallpaper? One of my favorite things to do when flipping furniture is to add a bold pattern inside the drawers, on shelves or the inside backing. The options are endless. In this post I’ll show you how to use peel and stick wallpaper on furniture to really level up the personality on your next project.
Keep These 4 Things In Mind For Best Results
Using peel and stick wallpaper on furniture is such a great way to update the look and style of nearly any piece. It can add so much personality and character, all while not ruining the piece if you change your mind later on because it can be removed with minimal effort and no damage!
For best results using peel and stick wallpaper on your furniture project, you’ll need to make sure the furniture is
- Clean
- Dry
- In good condition (no major chipping, cracking or peeling)
- Flat
How To Apply Peel & Stick Wallpaper To Furniture
Thinking about applying peel and stick wallpaper can be intimidating if you have no previous experience with it!
Although it’s not complicated, here are some pointers and things to remember that’ll help the process go smoothly.
- Take your time. Don’t be in a rush when starting this project. Give yourself ample time and remain calm. Patience required.
- Have several new, sharp razor blades ready. An already-used or dull-ish blade will be your worst nightmare, trust me.
- A hard plastic smoother is necessary. Air bubbles are inevitable, but a smoothing tool will get rid of them.
- Be careful not to stretch the paper. Most peel and stick wallpapers are made of vinyl which stretches quite easily when pulled and tugged on. If the vinyl stretches out, you’ll never get the seams/pattern to align properly. So go slow and easy.
- Give yourself enough excess around the edges. It’s much easier to trim the excess than to come up short!
- Don’t remove the paper backing all at once. You’ll peel the backing off as you go when applying the wallpaper.
Armed with these tips, you’ll be able to easily apply your wallpaper!
