Hey guys! I just had to drop in today really quick to share this chest of drawers. This piece came from St. Louis by way of my good friend Sucheta. Seriously you guys, if you love glossy furniture as much as I do, you’re going to flip out over her work! She is one of the main reasons I tried my hand at high gloss oil enamel. Anyway, Sucheta’s Craigslist is much better than mine when it comes to finding vintage furniture at amazing prices! She found this dresser and a few other pieces from a seller near her, and she was kind enough to go to the guy’s house and buy them on my behalf! I’ll share the other 3 pieces I bought another time. I arranged a shipper to haul the load to me the next day.
I chose to paint this in Sherwin Williams Industrial Enamel in High Gloss. The color is Copper Patina by Benjamin Moore. It’s such a soft and pretty color that I would describe as minty/aqua. As much as I love the color, I have to mention that it was not an easy color to sell unfortunately. I had a lot of interest on it, but it’s such a taste-specific shade, seemed like most people said it wasn’t blue enough to match or green enough, or white haha! Just when I had almost decided to keep it for my daughter’s room, a sweet lady from Colorado bought it:) No before photos again, sorry…..but the after pictures taken by Lacy are stunning!
What do you guys think about mint? I love it so much, but it doesn’t really go with the decor in my home. Probably the exact same thing a lot of other potential buyers were thinking! One of the reasons I enjoy painting so much is to be able to use and admire different colors that I love, but then I sell them so I don’t get tired of it too quickly! Thanks for reading!

What a beautiful job you’ve done. The color is so relaxing — so beachy. I’m intrigued by the painted you used because I’ve been looking for an enamel paint for a project. This has potential. I saw your link at Friday’s Furniture Fix party.

Ann Marie, thanks for your comment! I found this paint easy to work with (well, as far as oil enamel goes, that is) I sprayed it with a Titan 440i Airless sprayer. I believe this product is a Contractor paint, meaning Sherwin Williams will store it in the back part of the store and you’ll have to ask for it by name…..don’t quote me on that, but I’m pretty sure! Good luck if you try it! Would love to hear back from you with any comments or questions if you try it!

Hi Kayla,
Well, IDK why people didn’t warm up to this color. I see mint everywhere these days. Looks like a beautiful color in a beautiful finish. I have not tried the paint you used. I’m so intrigued. I assume you used a sprayer??? Thanks so much for linking to Friday’s Furniture Fix. We love having you share with us!! Susie from The Chelsea Project

Hi Susie! Thanks for your comment! I’m so excited to have finally joined your link party:) Yes I used my Titan 440i airless sprayer for this application. As far as oil paint goes, this particular one was pretty easy to work with!

This piece is just beautiful! Do you think I could achieve this finish with a brush? I don’t have a spray gun.
Kayla says
Hi Sally, thank you! While I really wish I could tell you that, yes you can get this exact finish with a brush, I think that would be just a bit misleading:( You can, no doubt, get a really nice finish by using a high quality brush and oil paint (my fav brush being a 2″ or 2.5″ sash Purdy). If you use some Penetrol in your oil paint it will help level brush marks quite a bit….but it’s been my experience over the years that no matter how skilled of a painter a person is and no matter what self-leveling products you add into your paint…the truth is, oil is just a pain to work with and you’re going to end up with some imperfections. However, please don’t let this be too intimidating to give it a try!! While brushing won’t give you a sprayed-like finish, you can still get a really good finish! Good luck to you and I hope you will let me know your results when you try it!!

Thank you Kayla, I know this is an old post… but I just stepped into the world of high gloss finishes only recently. My tastes keep changing and evolving and you and your friend Sucheta have been the ones who brought the new shiny obsession out into the open, lol.
We don’t have a lot of options as far as oil paints in Washington state (which I didn’t know until I went and tried to buy some) but I found that Benjamin Moore advance alkyd has a great high gloss finish for someone who has until now stuck to mostly matte finishes.
There are so many new things to learn all of a sudden and I appreciate all the great information and content you put out there. Do you have paid courses or Q & A sessions where I could continue learn from you?
I have some great pieces, including a Henredon lowboy that want to do justice to, so I’m looking for some guidance here!
Sorry so long winded and thank you again!
