Stripes are just the best, right?! They’re simple but so eye catching. Stripes stop my scroll every time. When I found this desk on Craigslist for a measly $25, I knew painting stripes all over that sucker would create an eye catching, scroll stopping piece of furniture.
Supplies I Used
Some links are affiliates
- TSP
- 3″ Masking Tape
- Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and Old White
- Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Wax
- Wax Brush
- 2½ Purdy Brush
- Fine Grit Sanding Sponge
- Tape Measure
- Old T-Shirt
- New Hardware
How To Paint Stripes on Furniture
- Clean the desk with a mixture of TSP and hot water.
- Paint two coats of Graphite over the desk.
- Measure the desk top to find the center and mark it.
- Place the middle of the tape onto the center of the desk.
- With the drawers in place, wrap the tape around the entire piece.
- Instead of measuring every tape placement, simply apply pieces of tape next to each other.
- Remove every other strip of tape.
- Paint two coats of Old White between stripes.
- Remove tape.
- After paint is dry, lightly sand edges to distress (optional).
- Lightly wax desk using wax brush in tight swirling motions. Remember, the secret to waxing is THIN coats! A little wax goes a LONG way!
- Give the wax about 10 to set up then buff with an old t shirt.
- Apply new hardware
- Admire your masterpiece!
